The Project
The Louisiana Trans Oral History Project (LaTOHP) was founded in 2020 to gather and preserve the voices of Louisiana’s transgender communities.
In 2021 we received funding from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities to create transcriptions and hold public programming.
After a year or so interviews with individuals on the topic of “being trans in Louisiana,” we transitioned to documenting the rise of anti-trans legislation in Louisiana. Our joint podcast on the topic can be found on the Solidarity History website, on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, RSS, and most other platforms.
In 2022 we co-founded the Mapping Trans Joy project, again with funds from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.
In 2023 we have begun spending more time with field recordings — showing up at rallies, protests, legislative sessions, and other sites of trans history making.
